SL500 R230 Lumbar Support FIx/Hack
How I removed the Lumbar Support section and replaced the air bags with fake and real IV bags. The idea is from the MBWorld.com forum.

How I installed these KMAC rear camber arms. EDIT....The rear underside that I'm calling the gas tank is not the gas tank, it's the floor of the trunk. KMAC adjustable camber arms. This is how I attempted to fix the hose connector leak. As the connector did not want to come off, I didn't want to pry on it too much as the side of the radiator and neck for the connector is plastic. I felt prying too much on it could crack the plastic neck or radiator and make the problem worse. EDIT the leak was actually coming from a tiny crack just above the radiator connector neck. Links...

Here's how to remove the cylinder. Here are the links that I reference in the video. EDIT June 5, 2020. The very short bolt that holds the rod to the cylinder backed out on me today, luckily there wasn't any damage when lowering the roof. If your trunk soft close isn't working, the air pump circuit has probably timed out due to a leak in the soft close actuator. Here's how to take out the actuator and fix the leaks. You can buy the black hockey puck actuator new on ebay. Just search "mercedes trunk Actuator Servo" and you will find them for around $54. To seal the leaks, an epoxy for plastic would be best.

How to use KTAG to program a used ECU to save a ton of money. This should work for any Mercedes with a ME2.8 ECU. The ebay seller no longer has the unit I bought, so you can just search "K-TAG ECU" and a few will come up. KTAG Unit with HW 6.070 and SW 2.13 was used in this video. So since you said your toe was out of wack after installing that camber arm and still eating up your tires and that you were able to fix that situation by adjusting the toe arm.....i was wondering how do you adjust toe on these cars? Or did you end up getting adjustable toe arms also?
For the rear toe, if you follow one of the lower arms inward, you'll see the adjustment bolts hiding above the exhaust pipe. You have to lower the exhaust pipe by removing the rubber exhaust hangers toward the rear. Then you can lower the exhaust enough to get to the adjustment bolts. It's been awhile but I believe you need to loosen both bolts then move the wheel to the desired position, then lock down the bolts. I did a string alignment and was able to get it pretty close, later took it to the dealer to have them do it. One of the very rare occasions I take my car to the dealer! @MrMarco6900 could you update us if there is any problem with the couplers that you used? Usually i replace the whole links from the pump, but i'm looking into this solution, but not sure if i'll have a very small leaking in the future , i appreciate your video, you are amazing
I have not opened the panel up and looked at the connections, but it's been a few years now and I haven't lost any fluid out the tank. The top does go up and down daily, but I normally don't move the roll bar.

Yes, in order, I've had to replace the top lock cylinder, right frame lock, left frame lock, trunk lid drive, roll bar, two lock paws. The top lock cylinder is the only one I was able to rebuild myself.
@@MrMarco6900 i see, i already replaced the two frame locks , the left paws (now i'm doing the right pows) the trunk lid, hopefully I want need to replace the Right/left load assist cylinder(2308001572) or the right/left Main lift cylinder,(2308001272) because I could not find any video on how to replace those cylinder, i think the whole process looks scary.... i'm preparing my self for this hug job in advance .....
Any advice to bypass close trunk lid error message? I have a leak, ran out of fluid mid cycle, roof closed, front trunk not latched to finish close cycle, I manually opened trunk, topped fluid which was very low, now want to close the convertible all the way now that there is fluid in the pump, but stuck at close trunk lid message (which I have closed many times including the trunk partition). Thank you.

Love that your window magically goes from up with the door card removed to down a few minutes later. Really helping us out here
The window does need to be at least half way down in order to remove window regulator. Also if your window is stuck in the up position. While holding the window down button have someone apply even pressure on the top while pushing down. It shouldnt take much force to get it to go down.

Did you work on two cylinders or one? I thought you said there was no cylinder on the driver’s side. I’m confused.
There are 3 cylinders altogether. You have the roll bar cylinder on the passengers side only, which raises and lowers the roll bar, and the small lock paw cylinders on both sides which lock the roll bar in place.

No, just the camber arms.
@@MrMarco6900 the bushings on the lower control arm fail and causes camber problems. you have to change them
can you add the dynamic seat control unit to one that does not have it? I am going to do this repair and would like to upgrade
I couldn't say as I don't know what comes with the non Multicontour seat. Seems it would be a heck of a lot of work. You would also need to program it in with a DAS computer.
Unbelievable! A garage that services Mercedes wanted $1,100 to fix. With your help I did it for $10 bucks! Having a problem with getting the rear cusion seat back in with the two red seatbelt attachment
Thank you for the very detailed video. Given the work involved, my suggestion is buy the new part (entire actuator assembly) and fix it right the first time. I found the part on amazon $375.

Thanks for your video. I have a 2006 s500 with the m113 engine. My upper hose became so frustrating that I almost had it towed to the dealership. Your video showed me how to take tension off the connection. I made the same cut on the connection, though I used a router type bit on my rotary tool. Made the cut and I was able to easily pull the connection off. (Eazy-Peazy.) Thanks again.

what if ktag doesn’t load the driver for my e430 ME2.8 ecu? where do i get the driver or request it from ?
Sorry I wouldn't know where you could get a driver for a specific model. You could possibly find another mercedes model that has the same part number for the ECU and try the driver for that model. Try deleting and reinstalling the program. Possibly try the program on a different computer.

The first one to go is usually the top front lock cylinder, you have to remove the headliner to check that one. Of course you have to remove the panels to check the roll bar cylinders too. Did you check all the other places I showed in the video?
It will take quite a bit of leaked oil from the pawls to accumulate in the rocker panel below before appearing as a puddle on the ground.Once it does, you'll know whether it's the Left or Right one. I emptied my reservoir twice before it became obvious.
When I close mine I don't here anything no motor running no air nothing where does it get its air from, does it get air from the same pump for locks roof because they also don't work all the fuses are good any help would be very thank full
Both get the air from PSE pump. It's in the trunk under the hydraulic pump, (bottom left) If you are sure the fuse is good, you might have a bad PSE pump. Search Mercedes PSE pump and you'll find a few good videos on how to fix it or replace it.

Lets say that cylinder dies again than you just repeat the process. Can those connectors be reused or do you have to remove the line? Thank you so much. You are amazing teacher.
According to the cabriolethydraulics website, they are not reusable. You might be able to use another set of couplers but I don't think there is a lot of slack in the hose back to the pump. Might be possible but I don't know.
Mr Marco i have a leak but its not coming from the hydraulic cylinder it's coming from a hose. do you have a part number for that splice kit?
Don't have a part number, I've only seen them at cabriolethydraulics. At this moment they are saying "We currently have a low inventory on Hose Couplers. Please contact us for availability". They do make the hoses for the R230. "Hoses are available in sets or individually. Call us for pricing at (941) 756-1300." Click the link in the description for their website.

Hi Marco, do you know how to get that connector off without cutting it? I'm struggling to pop mine off. It's like it has suction or something. It pops up a little bit but can't seem to get it off :/ Same with the lower hose. Just wondering how you did it when you changed the radiator.Thanks
Hello Aaron, as you can see from the video, I was not able to get the connector off on the bottom part without cutting it off. If you're putting in a new radiator, you don't have to worry about breaking the plastic neck on the old radiator so you can just pry the connector off with a crowbar or big screwdriver. You might need a new connector and hose section by doing that but not a bad idea to replace it anyway. I don't remember having a problem with the upper connector part of the hose.
Just FYI, I did replace the radiator as the leak was coming from the plastic part of the radiator just above the plastic neck. Seams to be a common problem right at that spot. I would highly recommend getting a BEHR radiator.

I did this about a month ago and so far so good. I did have several plastic tubes crack and break which I replaced with small silicone tube I had in my garage. I used same bags on side bolsters and folded then in half length wise.
Folding the bags in half, that's a good idea, I didn't think of that!

When reinstalling, did you just push the lever back onto the ball with your hands, mines all plastic, not metal like yours. Maybe I'll put a touch of WD-40 on it, as pushing it hard seems a little dangerous or is there a correct angle to get it on easier?
Did this fix it ? Mine leaking from the same area, I took for service but the workshop (who I don't trust cos it the first time I used them) said it's the radiator leaking and then tried to ask a ridiculous sum of money.
The problem was a very small crack in the radiator just slightly above the hose. I replaced the radiator.

Do the ball bearing serve a purpose, dont they need to suck air back it there?
I can't see a purpose for the ball bearings. I just know it starts working again when you seal them up.
